Golf Trivia
Golf is a favorite sport of many people today, but it has been around for
many years. Over the years, there has been quite a bit of golf trivia. Did
you know the game of golf originated in Scotland? The average player will
shoot a 72 for an 18 hole course. The Masters is a golf tournament held
each year in Augusta, GA. Every other year, the Americans and Europeans
play for the Ryders Cup. Bunkers are names for sand traps on the golf course.
Do you know what course has the “Hell Bunker?” It is 14th hole
at St. Andrews. Do you know what course has the “Hell’s Half
Acre Bunker?” That one is located at the Pine Valley course.
Would you like to learn some golf trivia about playing golf? First, you
should know what the narrow strip of grass leading up to the green is called.
It is the fairway. If you hit your ball into a water hazard, you will receive
a one-stroke penalty. Do you know what a mulligan is? It is when you hit
a shot, but aren’t happy with the results, so you shoot the same shot
over again. Par is when you shoot a hole in the number of shots specified.
So, if the hole was a par 4 and you finished with only 4 strokes, you would
be shooting par. Do you know what a birdie is? That is when you shoot one
under the par on a hole. Do you know what a bogie is? That is when you shoot
one over par on a hole.
Are you ready for some golf trivia about professional players? Bob Charles
was the first left-handed golfer to win a major tournament, the British
Open in 1963. Bob later went on to win the Senior British Open in 1989 and
1993.
